Welcome friends and curious minds! My name is Elisa Zhang, and for the next four months, I will be living in the bustling capital of South Korea: Seoul. I will be taking courses at Yonsei University, which is one of the oldest universities in the whole country. But how did I end up here?
I was born and raised in New York City and when I graduated high school, I moved to upstate New York to attend Cornell University. I've always wanted to go to medical school and become a doctor, but I wanted to major in something that would broaden my perspective while teaching me about my own cultural background. In my sophomore year, I decided to major in Asian Studies while being on the pre-medical track. With a passion for learning about Asian cultures and languages, I naturally thought my next step should be studying abroad in Asia.
I chose to go to South Korea because I want to learn about Korea's role in the global community and improve my Korean language skills. I'm excited to share my experiences with you over the next few months and show you aspects of Korean culture that are not as well known. I can't wait to hear about your personal stories and experiences throughout the school year as well!
