Miawoezonlooo! My name is Elisha, and I am an Education Peace Corps Volunteer living in Togo, a country in West Africa. I moved here from the United States to experience a new community, learn new things, and share stories from everyday life.
I live in a small town where I spend my days teaching, collaborating with local partners, and learning how people live here. I speak French and Ewe and am always learning new words. Some days I walk to the market, some days I travel by motorcycle, and some days I simply sit and talk with friends. Life here is slower, colorful, and full of surprises.
Living in Togo has taught me to slow down and enjoy being present with others. I have learned that kindness takes many forms, even when we do not share the same language. I learn by listening, asking questions, and trying again when things are difficult.
Before coming to Togo, I worked in design and storytelling. I love taking photos, creating videos, and writing about what I observe. I believe stories help us understand one another more deeply.
Conversations about Africa can sometimes feel complex, especially if it is unfamiliar. Africa is a large and diverse continent with many different countries and cultures. What I share comes from my experiences in Togo, which may differ from other places. I invite you to approach these stories with curiosity, openness, and patience, knowing that some topics may be challenging.
I am excited to share my journey with you. I hope my stories help you learn about Togo and show how people around the world live, learn, and care for one another. Life here is not always easy and each day brings challenges, but supporting students and learning alongside my community has been a profound privilege and a source of pride.
