A Chat with Tony and Frisly

For me (Frisly), I leave at 1:00 p.m. Tony leaves at 12:50 p.m.

How do you get to school? Are you allowed to go to school by yourself?:

We go to school in the camioneta, or chicken bus. Cata brings us to school and picks us up. Because Tony is little, he doesn't have to pay. I have to pay 3Q.

Where do you eat lunch? What is your favorite food?:

We come home for lunch. For special ocassions, we might go out to eat in Xela. For Tony's birthday, we went to Pizza Hut.

Frisly: My favorite foods are hamburgers, chicken soup and Jell-O.

Tony: My favorite foods are pizza, carne asada and fried chicken.

What language do you speak at school? How do you say "Hello" in your language?:

We speak Spanish at school and at home. My mom, aunt and Mama Chula (grandma) speak K'iche, but we don't. Hello in Spanish is Hola.

What are some common kids' names at your school?:

Frisly: In my grade, there are two boys named Jordin. There are also a bunch of Miguels and Michaels. For girls, Deisy and Rachel.

Tony: Jeferson!

What subjects do you study in school, and which one is your favorite?:

Frisly: I study math, productivity and development, K'iche, English, Natural sciences, reading and writing, physical education, the constitution, artistic expression and a little history.

I like art the best because it's easy, I get to draw and paint. Math is also easy and physical education is fun because we have free time to play.

Tony: Math, physical education, reading and writing and handwriting. I like physical education because I can run!
