My favorite part is the Ferris Wheel, which goes really fast and gives you a great view of the whole town! We took a spin in the evening, allowing us to appreciate the sunset and pretty lights.
I have been reading "I, Rigoberta Menchu," an account of a young woman during the Guatemalan civil war. The civil war lasted over 30 years, from 1960 - 1996. Rigoberta Menchu was an activist and freedom fighter, which was uncommon for young women in her time.
While soccer and basketball are without a doubt the most popular sports here, I am cursed with being uncoordinated and scared of the ball. However, I do love hiking! This week, I hiked to viewpoint of Santiaguito, and on the way we saw squirrels, lots of plant life and a giant bull!
I regret to report that this week, Xelaju, the soccer team in the nearby city of Quetzaltenango, lost their game to Deportivo Mixco, a team from Mixco (a city a few hours to the East). We don't lose hope! Go chivos (goats)!!
