Sain baina uu (Hello)! My name is Elisabeth Chan, but you can call me Ellie. I am 22 years old and grew up near New York City. Being close to the city, I was exposed to many cultures, cuisines, and celebrations different from my own. This upbringing made me curious about how people live and care for one another globally. In college, I traveled to Asia, Africa, and South America to learn about how people practice medicine in other parts of the world. I learned about the importance of the doctor-patient relationship and how cultural understanding informs trust.
After college, I started a Master’s Program in dentistry. Eager to continue better understanding cultures to provide more inclusive, patient-centered oral care, I applied for and was fortunate to receive a U.S. Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship in Mongolia. Currently, I am living in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, where I’m teaching university students at the Mongolian University of Life Sciences. I am excited to share my adventures with all of you and look forward to hearing about your journeys throughout the school year!
