In US Dollars, this means that in Fiji, a bottle of water costs 87 cents, whereas in Sydney, it costs over $3 US!
The best meal I had this week was a wagyu burger in Sydney. Wagyu is a special type of beef that is very expensive in the U.S., so this was a great treat!
Interestingly, Australia and Fiji both play a lot of American music. Specifically, at the hotel in Fiji they played a lot of country music. I think this was to cater to American tourists, but I could be wrong. It could also just be indicative of how influential American pop culture is around the world!
The most fun activity this week was ziplining in Fiji! The tourguides told us about some wildlife and some legends about the cave we went in. They said that Fijians hid in the cave from British colonizers. Since there is only one entrance, any intruders were at risk of quickly being killed, which made it a good place to hide and defend themselves from these foreign invaders.
This week I did a lot of readings for class. In Aboriginal Studies, I read an article about an Aboriginal woman's father searching for a deeper understanding of his identity after it was taken from him by the Australian government. Aboriginal people were literally kidnapped by the government throughout the 1900s, and the people who were kidnapped became known as the Stolen Generation.
