Hi! My name is Emily, and I am an undergraduate student from UC Davis. I am studying abroad at the University of Hong Kong during my final two quarters of undergrad. At UC Davis, I study International Relations with a minor in Chinese. I chose to study Chinese language and culture because I am fascinated by learning different languages. My goal is to become more interactive with diverse cultures, so I can engage more authentically with people around the world. I currently know 3 languages, but I hope to learn more!
During my 4-month adventure in Hong Kong, I am looking forward to my classes about the region, such as Hong Kong cinema and media, Hong Kong's government, and Cantonese (a dialect of Chinese). I will also be working on my senior honors thesis project about migration experiences.
Some of my hobbies include playing bass guitar, being active at the gym or outdoors, and trying new foods. I plan on connecting with Hispanic culture while I am abroad by taking salsa classes, which is something I've never done before. This will be my first time traveling internationally across the world, and I am eager to do so many cool things outside of my comfort zone. Thank you for joining me on this adventure!
