Interviewing Sarai - A 16 year-old High School Student in Zamora

*Many people purchase large jugs of water because tap water is not a safe source. Water trucks will drive around the neighborhood in the same way the States have ice cream trucks, or you can schedule deliveries

What time does school start, and what time do you go home?:

School starts at 7 am and ends at 1 pm. My dad drives me home but sometimes I have a night class that I will taxi to from home.

(There is a local English Learning Academy that has night classes available for students.)

How do you get to school? Are you allowed to go to school by yourself?:

My dad drives me to school, which is very entertaining because he is very funny and has a childish sense of humor.

Where do you eat lunch? What is your favorite food?:

I eat lunch at home. My mom always cooks. It is usually chicken, rice and a tomato salad.

(Schools will have dining areas where snacks can be purchased during a mid-day recess or after school, but most students eat lunch at home or somewhere else.)

What language do you speak at school? How do you say "Hello" in your language?:

I speak Spanish at school. "Hello" in Spanish is "Hola", or more informally, "Holis".

(Greetings are incredibly important here! It is considered disrespectful if you do not address everyone when you walk into a room. "Hello," "Good Morning" and "How are you" are all expected.)

What are some common kids' names at your school?:

Some common names at school are "Valentina," "Sebastian" or "Mateo."
