A Day in the Life

The vet will come soon to give them their shots. When they are a little older we will sell them. These kinds of dogs go for a lot of money here. They are very cute as puppies. Hazel is happy not to be pregnant anymore.”

Have you traveled? Where have you traveled to?:

“I have never traveled outside of Ghana before. It is very hard to get a visa to travel far away. I don't like that they deny us our right to travel. I want to see the world. When I get the chance to visit other countries, I would like to go to the United States to visit some of my students. New York would be exciting, but I don't like a lot of noise, so I won't stay long. I will go anywhere in the world. I want to experience other cultures up close. I have travelled around Ghana before. Each region is different from each other, so it's a new experience everywhere you go.“

What do you do for work?:

”I work with the Account General Department of Ghana. I handle large sums of government money every day. I‘m getting close to retirement, but I will always work. I would like to start my own business when I retire. I'm not sure what I would like to do, but I know I need a change. My job now is very taxing on my mind, very stressful. I have worked there for over 40 years. I have lived a long life!”

Is there anything else you would like to say to students in the United States?:

”Come and visit Ghana!  You can stay with me! Ghana will surprise you. You won't understand Africa until you make the effort to see it firsthand. One day I would like to experience the U.S. firsthand, too.“
