Is this food connected to the local environment? How?:

The food in Ghana is a special way to connect yourself with the environment. All Ghanaian dishes use fresh ingredients from the local markets and farms. Spices like garlic, chili powder, cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, ginger, and pepper are all grown and ground up fresh for the local people. Yams, wheat, plantains, beans, and rice are also grown nearby, and many people grow these foods themselves! Processed foods are not quite as common in Ghana as they are in America. There are few fast food places here, and super markets are often farther away from home. The local markets are close and convenient, and they have everything someone would need to cook. The climate in Ghana is very hot and moist, so it is like summer all year round. This is great for farming crops, and it makes the fruit here extra sweet and juicy. Food not only connects people to the environment, it connects everyone to each other. Preparing food takes a lot of time, and recipes are not used. A food is considered done when it tastes done. It takes practice to know what a dish is supposed to taste like, so it is helpful to have a lot of friends to help taste your food!
