Hola! Hi! My name is Emily Fisher, and I am 22 years old. I grew up in a small town in North Carolina, and then I spent my high school years in Summerville, South Carolina. I went to the University of South Carolina where I just graduated in May with degrees in English and psycholoy. Reading, hiking, exercising and spending time with my friends and family are some of my favorite things. During my years at USC, I volunteered weekly as a mentor and a tutor in my community. This experience (along with my coursework and my research) embedded a desire within me to help children of all abilities and backgrounds learn how to read so that they are able to experience the power granted by books. I want to help children learn about themselves and others!
I applied for and was awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant grant. This position allows me to serve English Language Learners at a Spanish elementary schoool, and I intend to use books to not only help my students master the English language, but also to understand the world around them. When I am not at my school, I plan to be walking El Camino de Santiago, taking a class at the local university, training for a half marathon, practicing meditation and writing. I am excited to share my advertures and new experiences with you all, and I look forward to getting to know you all during our video calls!
