Meet Mary Patience: A Girl in Uganda

These three classes study the same subjects: English, mathematics, religious education, literacy 1 and literacy 2. Literacy 1 and literacy 2 are used for reading and writing, but we learn science and social studies topics. My favorite subject is math because it is easy!

What is your homework like?:

We do not get homework every night. If we get English homework, it may be writing sentences or matching words. If we get math homework, it is usually counting on an Abacus.

What do you like to do after school? Do you have a favorite sport or game?:

After school, I like going home and playing dodge (dodgeball) with my friends.

Who is your favorite famous person?:

I do not know many famous people, so my favorite would have to be President Museveni who is the President of Uganda!

What kinds of music do you listen to?:

I like religious songs. In church, we play many songs. My favorite is "Yesu Dira Ano".

What would you like to be when you grow up?:

When I grow up, I want to be a teacher. I like school!

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?:

I would like to go to Kampala, Uganda because it is the capital of my country, and I have never been there before.

What do you know or think about the United States?:

I do not know many things about the United States except that is where Teacher Emily is from!

What questions do you have for kids in the United States?:

1. What do children like? 2. What do children eat?  3. What do children drink?  4.
