Introduction and Wedding Ceremonies in Uganda

In Uganda, the maid of honor and best men are a married couple who the bride and groom choose to serve as their role models for marriage. Both weddings in Uganda and in the U.S. start with sharing vows and sometimes reading from the Bible. After, there is a party with food and dancing.

Why does the community have this tradition?:

The community has this tradition because Uganda is a very religious country. They believe that marriage is a sacred commitment. While Uganda is home to different religions, such as Christianity, Islam and many others, most Ugandans believe that marriage is important. Introduction ceremonies and weddings recognize the importance of marriage and uniting couples and families.

Is this tradition connected to its environment? How?:

Sometimes, the tradition is connected to the environment. In some parts of Uganda and depending on the wealth of the families, wedding guests will bring different fruits, foods, and seedlings as gifts. Occasionally, couples may plant trees during their wedding ceremonies. I have never seen this during my time here in Uganda, though.
