The weather was unusually cloudy and rainy. Some days, I woke up to sunlight, but dark, smeary storm clouds quickly floated in by lunchtime. Late afternoons were drizzly, with light thunderstorms coming in at night.
After a few weeks of clear and sunny skies, I was surprised by the recent gloomy weather. The Philippines’ rainy season is from June to November, so I thought the worst of the rain was already behind me. The overcast is not all bad, though. It cools down the temperature, which is always welcome!
I saw many cows and carabaos this week while running near my community’s largest river. A carabao, called cârbao in my local language, is a swamp-type water buffalo with dark, leathery skin and large, half-moon horns.
While visiting a nearby waterfall, I saw small, silver river fish swimming close to mossy rocks.
