When I arrived in Argentina in March, I already knew a decent amount about what to expect. This is my fifth trip to the country, after all! But places always find a way to surprise you, and every time I am here I learn so many new things.

In Esquel, the weather has transitioned from a warm and sunny autumn to a cold and humid winter. The city got its first snow of the year this week, and the snowy season is just getting started. Esquel got a record amount of snow last year, and people are predicting that this winter will be similar. I am excited to go snowshoeing and skiing once the winter sports season starts next month.

This past weekend, I took a fun research trip to Neuquén, the biggest city in Patagonia and the capital city of the Neuquén province. I walked along the urban river walk and checked out lots of art at the Museum of Fine Arts. I also attended a very cool heavy metal concert! Part of my research focuses on how musicians from different music genres incorporate local Indigenous influences in their music, so this concert was a cool opportunity to learn more about how Patagonian metal bands are doing this.

I hope that you have had a fun time following along with my travels!
