The first step in making chipsi is to peel all of the potatoes. Next, you begin to season them with a small amount of salt. Once this is done you sprinkle masala (a red, spicy Indian powder) on top of them and throw them into hot oil to fry. You repeat the proccess of seasoning with masala and frying as many as three times until the chipsi are crispy and ready to eat.
The food is one of the most common because potates are the second-most grown crop in Iringa! There are about ten shops near my university that only sell chipsi and they all prepare them in different ways.
