¡Hola todas! (Hello, everyone!) My name is Gaby, and I am currently living in Vigo, Galicia in the northwest of Spain teaching English to Spanish high school students. I’ll tell you more about this experience over the weeks to come, but I figured I would start by telling you a bit about how I got here.
I was born and raised in San Antonio and attended Providence Catholic School from 6th-12th grades, graduating in 2017. While at Providence, I was involved in National Honor Society, Rotary Interact, The Social Justice Club, and did a brief stint on the bowling team (a failed attempt to get out of the PE requirement). I was most involved in National Art Honor Society (NAHS) and held various offices during high school. I still grab lunch with Ms. Martinez whenever I’m home!
After Providence, I started undergrad at Brown University in Rhode Island, where I studied public policy with a focus in education policy. The first few years of undergrad were tough. I went in as a Computer Science major and struggled through my first year of classes with the material and the realization I didn’t actually want to study CS. It was also hard being far from my family as they dealt with various health scares and I struggled with the challenges of being on my own for the first time, navigating a new city by myself and trying to be there for my family.
