¡Hola a todo el mundo! That means, “Hi everyone!” in Spanish. My name is Gaby, and I am living in Vigo, Spain. I grew up in San Antonio, Texas, where many people, including my family, speak Spanish. It is a big city not far from the U.S.-Mexico border. Growing up in San Antonio, I loved being around the vibrant Tex-Mex (Texas-Mexican) culture, food, and language, but I never learned how to speak Spanish.
In college, where I studied Education and Public Policy, I took a lot of Spanish classes and learned about how Mexican culture was heavily influenced by Spain. After I graduated, I began working as an English teacher, but I did not get to use my Spanish much, and I started to forget what I had learned.
Then, I learned about the Fulbright Program! The program would let me do what I loved, teaching, while learning more about Spanish culture and using Spanish all day, every day. That is how I came to live in Vigo. For the year that I am here, I plan on immersing myself in the culture, language, food, and cultural traditions of Spain and Galicia, the province my town is located in.
Thank you for learning about me, I am so excited to share my journey with you all this year!
