During my stay in Japan, I was able to visit a number of museums that featured tons of artists and their respective art styles. From watercolors to acrylic paints, I saw an assortment of colorful pieces that made you either gasp in awe or tilt your head in confusion.
In total, I went to at least four different museums across Tokyo. For visual art, my favorite museum would have to be The National Art Center Tokyo, which is located in Minato City, Tokyo in the Roppongi prefecture. After a nice train ride and a long walk, the giant museum reveals itself to be a work of art on its own. It stands tall in a curving rectangular shape, covered completely in windows. From the inside, the light from outside shines brightly into the large room, illuminating the people and souvenir stands within.
The art featured there was created with an assortment of mediums by stunning artists. Each piece centered around a certain theme and made you feel a new emotion, even if you didn't know what you were looking at. Some of the most common themes were nature, history and the value of life. Some artistic elements and styles included abstracts, illusions, textures and hyper-realistic imagery. I also noticed that a lot of artwork in this museum was very colorful, sometimes eccentric and strange.
