Introduction: Mobility is a key part of life. We lead busy lives in which we need to get from one place to another. Every place in the world relies on a different pattern of moving, which is a product of a place's history and culture. For example, because India was colonized by Britain, people drive on the opposite side of the road as they do in the U.S.
How do people get around?: Here in India there are many forms of getting around, so I'll list the top ways for you!
- Auto-rickshaw or "tuk-tuk"— a rickshaw has three wheels and has sides that are open. These are best to take for short distances, because you breathe in a lot of air pollution.
- Motorcycle/ scooter— Many people drive motorcycles or "scooties" that are easy to manuever around loads of traffic. I've ridden on the back of a few scooters with some friends.
- Car— Many people use personal drivers or ride-sharing services like Uber to book a cab.
- Bus— Some people use buses to get around because they are cheap and a reliable form of public transit. I haven't yet taken a bus in the city, but I did take an overnight bus to Hampi.
