Nice to meet you! My name is Giselle Meza-Gutierrez and I am from Modesto, California. I am turning 22 this March. At home, I attend California State University Stanislaus, but this spring I will be attending National Taiwan Normal University in Taipei, Taiwan! I will be studying in the Department of Taiwan Culture, Languages, and Literature. My journey is possible because of the Gilman Scholarship, a program with funding from the U.S. Department of State to help students travel abroad.
Growing up, my favorite things were watching movies and reading books about places all over the world. I dreamed about traveling and experiencing these wonders for myself since my family could not afford to travel. During quarantine, I watched movies from Taiwan and began to fall in love with the culture and places I saw in these movies. I promised myself that I would visit one day, and those dreams are finally a reality! I cannot wait to learn about your own hopes and dreams as we explore Taiwan together this semester...let's go!
