Xin chào! Hello! My name is Grace Ducat and I am 22 years old. I was born in Cleveland, Ohio, but I moved to Kernersville, North Carolina with my parents and younger brother when I was 16. I have been interested in traveling the world since I was in middle school, but I always thought that it was just a dream. In high school I loved everything science related, so I studied science at the University of Notre Dame, but I also decided to enroll in Anthropology and International Development Studies minors to learn about other cultures. Before my last year of college, I had the opportunity to travel to Makeni, Sierra Leone to conduct research. It was a life-changing experience that led me to the decision to pursue a career in anthropology instead of medicine. When I graduated college, I was awarded a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship to Vietnam!
Currently, I am living and working at Vinh University in north central Vietnam, spending my time teaching English, learning Vietnamese language and culture (especially the cuisine), exploring Vietnam (and hopefully more of Southeast Asia), and sharing American culture with my new friends. I am very excited to be able to bring you along my journey virtually and I hope you will enjoying learning about a new culture as much as I do!
