Traveler Bio

你好 (nǐ hǎo)! Hello! My name is Hailee and I am 22 years old. I am from Minneapolis, Minnesota, which is called the "Land of 10,000 Lakes." In the winter, the weather in Minnesota is very cold and snowy, but in the summer, I enjoy hiking, swimming, camping, biking, running, and kayaking. When I was 18, I moved to Florida, where I could spend time outdoors all year round! In college, I studied marine biology and environmental studies and minored in English and communication. I learned all about nature, the oceans, and what we can do to help protect our planet.

A few months ago, I accepted a Fulbright grant and moved 8,000 miles across the world to a small island in the Pacific Ocean called Taiwan! The weather here is very hot and there are lots of tall mountains, tropical beaches, green rainforests, pretty waterfalls, and big cities to explore. In Taiwan, they mostly speak Mandarin Chinese, but my job is to teach elementary schoolers how to speak English. Even though I’ve never been a teacher in a school before, I learned Mandarin Chinese when I was in school, so I can translate words and help my students understand English a little better. So far, I’ve had a lot of fun trying new things, meeting new people, and experiencing Taiwan’s amazing culture. I can’t wait to take you along on my journey and show you what life here on the island is like!
