As many times as I've been to Ghana, this time around has been very special. My goal was to explore the motherland, Africa, with my little princess Nailah so we could build a stronger bond as mother and daughter. I feel that we have exceeded our expectations of how strong our bond is by growing our style of communication, understanding each other's needs and laughing at the things we couldn't control.
Ghana is a place that is rich with history, culture, traditions and spirituality. Nailah and I both have learned so much in such a short amount of time. I'm excited to see what else is in store for us as we go into our second term, a new year and a better understanding of Ghanaian culture. This journey hasn't been easy: challenges have happened, lost loved ones in our homeland (Oakland, California) and flying back home wasn't on our original agenda during this journey. These are the lessons of pushing through hard times that make us become the best version of ourselves.
As Nailah and I continue on in Ghana, we hope to connect more with the Ghanaian community, build our language skills in Twi and get more spiritually grounded. And one more thing: swimming lessons are a must!
