Nature News

Some families also raise chickens from their home, and every morning I hear the chorus of neighbors' roosters crowing.

Similar to my home in Florida, there are lots of little geckos here in Cambodia, so I barely notice them anymore. There has been a baby gecko hanging around my bathroom this week, and I'm letting it stay in hopes that it will catch flies for me.

Unlike where I am from in Florida, there are monkeys that live in my town! Just a two minute bike ride from my house is the Kampong Chnnang Provincial Hall, and the trees surrounding the hall are full of long-tailed macaques. The monkeys are very comfortable around people, and they will hang around anyone with food. I rode my bike around the Provincial hall this week and saw around six to ten macaque monkeys. One was even sitting properly on a park bench.

What was the coolest thing I saw in nature this week?:

The coolest thing I saw in nature this week was a beautiful sunset over farmland. When the only thing on the horizon is an endless sea of green grass and sugar palm trees, you get such a clear view of the bright shades of pink and purple as they take over the big sky.

Other Nature News from this week:

Yesterday, I passed by some fishermen in a small pond just off of the main road. When I first saw them wading in the waist-deep water, I thought they were swimming. Then I noticed the nets that they were holding, and realized that they were actually fishing! I often see people fishing with nets in the big Tunle Sap River that cuts through my province, but I was surprised to see people fishing in a smaller pond along such a busy road.
