I love my province and I am very happy to spend most of my time in Kampong Chnnang, but I am also looking forward to travelling to new provinces in April!
This week (and most weeks), I have gotten around mainly by bike. Most people get around on two wheels here, although many people drive motorbikes, or motos, instead of bikes. When I go places with my host family or with co-teachers, we carpool. Not everyone has a car, but people that do usually only travel longer distances by car, and shorter distances by moto. And to go to church, I ride in a tuk tuk, a three-wheeled mini motor-carriage.
The most interesting place that I visited recently was a new attraction in my province called the Ta Sot Pagoda. I went with my school director and a few other teachers from my school. Aside from several large and ornate pagoda buildings, there are beautiful gardens and statues throughout the grounds that you can explore. It even had animal exhibits and a fancy cafe. The pagoda was still under construction, but it is expected to draw a lot of visitors in the coming months.
After several months of riding my bike down dirt roads and through muddy puddles, my bike was looking a little bit sad and dusty. This past weekend, my host dad helped me to scrub my bike clean and grease the chain, and now it's like I have a brand new bike! I had forgotten how shiny the paint used to be, and how smooth the chain used to run. I think I will need to start washing my bike more often, especially now in the dusty dry season.
