Traveler Bio

¡Hola! Hello! My name is Hannah Scotch, and I am a 22-year-old aspiring neuroscientist from Hastings-on-Hudson, NY. I loved growing up in the NYC suburbs as I got to experience the perfect mix between the security and community of a small town and the excitement of a big city. Living so close to the city also afforded me unique opportunities, like interning in an NYU microbiology lab in high school. This experience sparked my overall interest in neuroscience and research. However, I also love to spend time outdoors. I am a huge fan of hiking, backpacking, rowing and canoeing, so I decided to go to college in Maine at a small school called Bowdoin College. There, I majored in Neuroscience and minored in Government and Legal Studies, and I even unofficially completed a minor in Arabic! I absolutely loved Bowdoin because of its location and courses, which furthered my love of neuroscience and language.

After finishing my senior honors thesis on the capacity for neurological change in the cricket auditory system, I felt there was still a lot to learn about neurons and the various ways they change. Since I studied in Spain previously, I found it fitting to apply for the Fulbright U.S. Student Program to work in a neuroscience lab in Seville, Spain, to explore that study further. I was fortunate to receive a Fulbright Study/Research Grant to participate in research at a lab in Spain.

I look forward to learning about how the roles of specific molecules drive neurological changes in the mouse brain during its development stage. I cannot wait to get to know you and share my adventures with you this year!
