There are bus stops all around the city, with different bus routes that stop at different places. Think about how Route 12 at R.E.S. goes to your neighborhood, and Route 5 goes to your friend's. Imagine getting on the school bus, but you pay £1.75 ($2.30) to ride it and you can get off at any stop you want. Plus, it also goes more places than just houses: bus stops are mainly set on streets with lots of businesses around them, like grocery stores and movie theaters. Now you have a pretty good idea of what riding a London bus is like, but the coolest part is that London buses have two stories! I always climb the stairs to ride on the second floor of the bus, both because you're so high in the air and I just think it's awesome.
The Tube is the fastest way of getting around and probably my favorite. The "Tube" is what British people call subways, which are just trains that run in tunnels under the city. There are different tube lines too, just like bus routes, but each tube line has multiple different trains that take different routes, which made it a lot harder to learn at first. However, the Tube is the fastest way to get around, so I use it to travel almost everywhere I go!
Being able to walk so many places is one of my favorite things about living in London! I love getting to see all the beautiful and historical buildings of the city when I walk. Riding on a double-decker bus is still fun and new to me, and I get excited every time I climb the stairs! Buses are a pretty easy mode of transportation to navigate, too, because they basically go in straight lines and I rode the school bus my entire life before coming here.
