The Tube was a little scary at first, just because I'd never ridden anything like it before, and there are so many different routes on each line. I definitely got on the wrong train a few times before I figured out how to tell the difference! However, my school told us about an app called CityMapper that's basically G.P.S. for public transportation, and that's been a game changer for me. After a month in London, I'm a lot more confident in getting around on my own, and I'll be a pro by the end of the semester!
Absolutely: London's use of public transportation has to do with the number of people living here. Around 11,800 people live in the town of Rolesville, whereas London has 8.8 MILLION PEOPLE living there. That's 745 Rolesvilles! Imagine sitting in the carpool line with eight million cars in front of you... you would never make it to school! That might not seem like a bad thing to you at first, but now imagine there was a fire, or someone needed an ambulance. With eight million cars in Rolesville, no emergency vehicle would ever be able to get through. Right now, 528 kids go to R.E.S. If all 528 of you came to school in a separate car, the carpool line would fill the entire town, but if everyone rode the bus to school instead, you would only need eight buses to fit everyone. Taking a bus or the Tube underground keeps the roads clear enough that emergency vehicles can get around, and so can everyone else!
