I'm thinking back on the time when I learned that my initial study abroad program had been canceled and then was told that I needed to choose between going abroad to study public health or to study food systems. I chose the public health program because a really good friend of mine wants to get her Masters in Public Health some day. This spur-of-the-moment choice has been one of the best decisions I’ve made thus far. I say this because prior to going abroad, I didn’t think that this kind of travel was something that I could afford to do or even have the opportunity to do. I knew the multi-national program would be a once in a lifetime opportunity, and I also knew that it would be challenging in its own way. I traveled to three different continents over the course of one semester, and it’s not an experience I would exchange for anything

India, South Africa, and Brazil are three of the five BRICS countries. "BRICS" is an acronym for the five major emerging national economies that aim to promote peace, security, development and cooperation. Prior to going abroad, I didn’t know much about public health in general, not to mention in these specific countries, and I hadn’t really considered the implications of globalization around the world.
