In Germany, pretzels are made with wheat from local fields, and cheese often comes from cows that graze in green meadows. Kebab sandwiches are popular because of the mix of cultures in Germany, with flavors brought by Turkish immigrants.
In France, pastries and crepes are made with flour, butter and eggs from local farms. Brie cheese comes from cows raised in the French countryside, where the grass helps the milk taste rich and creamy. Berries grow well in France’s climate and make crepes taste fresh and sweet.
In Italy, pistachios are grown in sunny southern regions like Sicily, and bakers use them to make delicious fillings for croissants and pastries.
In Ireland, the cool and rainy weather helps fruits like apples, strawberries, and blackberries grow juicy and sweet. Most of the fruit I ate came from local farms near the market!
Now, I want you all to think: How is your food connected to your environment? And, do you grow anything that you eat?
