I really love empanadas. I have eaten them in almost every place that I've visited in Argentina. I love to try empanadas with different fillings. I even learned how to make them at home!
I tried empanadas. Empanadas origionally come from Spain. They are little dough pastries and they can have different fillings. Some are filled with carne (beef), queso (cheese), or humita (sweet corn). Humita is my favorite!
I was really excited to try my first empanada in Argentina. It was shaped like a half moon, and the edges had been twisted together. It was almost too pretty to eat...almost! I bit into it and it was delicious. It had chopped beef and olives inside mixed with spices and herbs. The dough on the outside was crispy but also a little bit chewy. I instantly knew that this would be my favorite food in Argentina!
The first step to making an empanada is making the dough. To make the dough, you mix water, flour, and butter together, you knead everything together, and you let the dough cool in the refrigerator. After a few hours, you take small pieces of dough and roll them out into flat circles. You can put any type of filling inside that you like.
