It is the short, rainy season here now and most days have some light rain or a thunderstorm. The temperature is only 89 degrees but with the humidity, it can feel much warmer, especially when directly in the sun during mid-day.
I saw many animals this week, including black and white colobus monkeys, putty nosed monkeys, many baboons and a hippo family in the river.
The coolest things this week were the black and white colobus monkeys on the ground eating clay soil for the salt and minerals. In the forest, minerals and salt are rare and many animals, like elephants and gorillas, will eat soil to obtain salt.
Monday, the 22nd, is Earth Day! It is a good week to think about how a healthy earth and ecosystem contribute to our happiness and well being.
