Hi everyone! I’m Ian, and I’m studying at a university in Singapore this semester. Come eat lunch with me at my university’s food court and see what happens when your plans change!
I ate lunch at Pondok Nasi Lemak, a stall in the Flavours @ UTown food court at the National University of Singapore. I wanted the curry chicken, but it wasn’t ready yet. I wasn’t too sad, because it’s not a limited-time item, so I can come back to try it any time. At the restaurant stall, I felt like I was going through the line at Subway: I walked along the counter and pointed at the dishes I wanted. When I saw fish, it looked too good to pass up, so I ordered a whole fried fish with red chili paste on top, long green beans, fried tofu, a potato in curry sauce and a big pile of coconut rice. It cost $6.50 in Singapore dollars, which is about $5 US dollars.
I absolutely loved the fish! The outside was golden and crunchy, and the inside was soft and flaky. The chili paste gave it a spicy kick. The green beans were crunchy, and the rice soaked up all the sauces. The potato was my least favorite. It seemed like it had been sitting in the curry sauce for a while, so it was softer than I like. Eating around the fish bones with a plastic fork frustrated me so much that I almost used my hands!
