Why Do I Love Plants? I'm So Glad You Asked!

Fast forward to college, I finally stepped foot in a research lab. I loved working in a research lab because I could finally let my ideas out into the world and do science. I worked on a project for four years, with the goal of improving a plant’s ability to survive a shortage of water. It was great to work on something so hard for so long. I even got to present my research and work in Hawaii! Throughout this time, I also did internships in Missouri and New York State. Each place was a little different, but they all made me into the scientist (and the person) I am today. After graduating, I applied for a Fulbright, and so it came to be that I was invited to Berlin, to study how plants sense cold temperatures.

Berlin is such an amazing place. Despite being urban, there are still trees and green things everywhere. Walking down a street, you can find wildflowers, grasses, and edible berries all over the place. It makes me happy to see a city that blends nature and humans, because humans are nature. When I’m going on plant walks, I can’t help but feel we humans are part of such a beautiful tapestry that includes animals, mountains, insects, and plants, all in one interconnected world. Plants provide us with food, shelter, beauty, and even the air we breathe! Do you see why I like plants now?

I hope you're as excited as I am! Thank you for joining me on this adventure, a journey is always more fun with friends!
