An Interview with Aisa Okuyama

My parents always respect what I want to do and praise me no matter what — they’re such positive people and I want to be that kind of parent too.
My older brother is a senior at the University of Tokyo and is interested in education. He studied very hard in high school to get into Tokyo University so we barely had time to talk back then. Right after school he’d head straight to cram school. I was always forced to study but he genuinely loved studying and I really admire him. He’s also someone who never forgets to be grateful. No matter what happens he stays humble and even when I’d take out my stress on him he never fought back. I really can’t compete with him — haha.
Our dream is for the two of us to save up money and take our parents on an overseas trip.

How do you get around?:

In Kyoto, I use the train or bicycle! In the city, trains are the main form of transportation, and they’re very convenient. In Fukui, it’s mostly cars, and I only occasionally take the train. Since high school students can’t get a driver’s license in Japan, I rode my bike everywhere — it took me 40 minutes to bike to school.

What types of clothing do you like to wear?:

I love Western fashion! I get inspiration from New Yorkers and Californians.

What do you like to do in your free time?:

When I have free time, I go to a friend’s house to chat about various things, or I cook and watch movies with friends!
