Again, it was just through a simple online search that I found programs to travel the world, most of the time for free!
Growing up I knew I wanted my life to be international. I wanted to always be connected to other countries and cultures. However, in learning about the way other people live, you also run into the challenges and problems that they face. The world is not always a fantastic place, as I learned that some kids that I had made friends with lived in places where not everyone always had access to clean water, food, and/or electricity. In some cases their governments were corrupt, or their schools were very strict and difficult. So while I knew I wanted my future to be one in which I could travel across the world and meet new people, I also knew that I needed to be a part of making the world a better place.
As a result of my childhood and these experiences, I sought a college major in which I could learn about the world and the problems it faces and learn how to be a part of the change. So now I study industrial and labor relations, or the human side of business. I study people and companies: what they do, why they do it, and where they do it at. Companies have a lot of money and power, while their employees and customers usually do not, so an imbalance exists. I study this imbalance and ways to fix it. I am passionate about finding ways in which companies and people can work together to solve the world’s problems.
In Ireland, I am studying how companies in Europe differ from those in the United States, and how different factors affect these companies, the people that work for them and the world. The city I live in, Dublin, is the capital of the Republic of Ireland.
