Farewell, My Dear Fifth-Grade Friends!

Sometimes, as an adult, I become so busy I forget there is a whole world out there to explore, so I am very grateful to have been able to see Belize through all of your eyes.

My second responsibility as a volunteer is to share about true Belizean culture and my life here in service. Through these articles and our video calls, I hope you have learned many wonderful things about my lovely host country and can share them with your friends and family. Maybe you will learn to make Belizean rice and beans, practice Spanish or Kriol, learn to punta (dance a traditional dance), celebrate Jouvet, make a model of a Maya ruin or even plan a trip!

Hopefully our time together has also inspired you to learn about many different cultures. While you can travel to new countries one day, right now you can also dive into any world--past or present--in the comfort of your home through reading, movies, art and music. There is still so much to learn about Belize, and even more about all of Central America. As we part ways, I challenge you to find another country with a current Peace Corps post (volunteer position) and learn about its culture. Maybe one day you will be able to explore as a volunteer, just as I have, and get to know a second or even third family in your home away from home.

You have all been such fantastic students and future adventurers. Thank you for coming along with me on my journey as I serve my two years in Belize, and best of luck finishing up the school year. Always remember to stay curious, kind and open to new knowledge, and maybe one day I will have the pleasure of reading your journey page right here!

Final farewell and tremendous thanks,

Isabel
