I learned that there are other sites to see near Uluru. Both Uluru and Kata Tjuta are two large rock formations in the desert of Australia. It takes a three hour flight to see them because they are in the middle of the country. Within 24 hours, I saw Uluru, hiked the base, watched the sunset, went stargazing, swam in the middle of two sand dunes, watched the sunrise and hiked through Kata Tjuta.
Both rock formations have taken almost 600 million years to form. Rain and surface water carved the Uluru and Kata Tjuta formations that people can see today. It is amazing to see something that has been around for much longer than humans have.
It is very difficult to live in this environment because it is the desert, where it's very hot and dry. The native Aboriginals of Australia rely on the little bit of water that collects near the rock formations. There are also trees and bushes that provide shade. Luckily, the trees and bushes don't need much water to grow.
