Before my trip, my sister, who had previously visited, told me about it, and I had also seen people talking about it online. Since I absolutely love Asian food, I knew I had to check it out! When I arrived, I was surprised by how many different food options were available. There were so many dishes to choose from that it felt like a dreamland for someone like me. After exploring the different options, I ended up having what I honestly think was the best ramen of my life!
However, that experience also taught me something important about shopping while traveling. When I tried paying at some of the food stands, I discovered that they only accepted cash or certain local payment cards. I wasn't expecting that, especially since I'm so used to paying with my card almost everywhere in the United States. Luckily, I eventually found a place that accepted my international card, and I was still able to enjoy an amazing meal. It definitely taught me to be more prepared and consider carrying cash when visiting smaller businesses or markets in the future.
Something else I've become more aware of during my travels is the challenges that some local communities face. In certain places I've visited, I've noticed protests and heard conversations about rising living costs, low wages, and expensive housing. Speaking with locals and learning more about these issues has helped me understand that the places I visit are more than just tourist destinations. They're also home to people who live and work there every day.
Given of this, I've become more motivated to support local vendors whenever possible, respect their customs, and be mindful of how I spend my money while traveling.
