The weather in southern Slovakia has been GORGEOUS. Europe is farther north than the United States, so our temperatures here change a bit more than back home. Most days start just above freezing and reach around 60 degrees by mid-afternoon. Most days are also sunny and clear. I'm told this sort of weather is very unusual, it is normally much colder, grayer and rainier by now. The impacts of climate change are definitely showing.
My mentor teacher has a pes (dog) named Lucky. He's a 10-year-old puli (a small Hungarian hunting dog) with a very high pitched bark and a strong desire to eat my shoelaces. He almost succeeded last Thursday when I visited. Lots of dogs walk around off-leash in Slovakia, and their owners are often happy to let me pet them, even if we do not share a common language. Stray mačka (cats) are common, too.
