Our News

What music did I listen to this week?:

I’ve been listening to Bridgit Mendler’s 2012 album “Hello, My Name is…,” which I believe is quite underrated. Mendler rose to fame on the Disney Channel through her role on Good Luck Charlie (great show), got degrees from Harvard and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and is now the CEO of a space exploration company. She is having an incredible career!

What activity was the most fun this week?:

I really enjoyed seeing my friends in Nitra last weekend. Slovakia has a total of 16 Fulbright English teachers and researchers, so we organize trips to visit each other’s cities. In Nitra, where another English teacher lives, there is a large castle and a nearby mountain with hiking trails which I mentioned a bit earlier. I love exploring new cities, so weekends away from my small hometown are always a highlight.

What did I read this week?:

I read lots of news, about Slovakia and the U.S. As I’m sure you’ve talked about at school, election day in America is next week. I studied political science in college, so many of my friends have asked for updates and my analysis of close races. We also had elections in Slovakia recently, and the results are slowly being announced. I am trying to educate myself on the political parties and representatives in the country, too, which takes a lot of time, effort and translating from Slovak to English.

What games or sports did I play this week?:

I introduced my students to the game Jeopardy! this week. There is a website which allows you to create a custom Jeopardy! board, so I created a board with trivia questions about the USA.
