Hi there! My name is Jalene, and I’m so excited to take you on a journey with me! I’m originally from New Jersey, but I’ve moved around a lot, which has taught me how to adapt to new places and embrace different cultures. That’s one reason I was so thrilled to join the Peace Corps right after graduating with a degree in psychology—I love meeting new people and discovering the world!
As a child, I was always curious about the world beyond my hometown. Growing up, I loved hearing stories about different places and imagining what life might be like in far-off countries. My passion for understanding people and their unique perspectives led me to study psychology in college, which has shaped how I connect with others today.
When it came time to choose where to go with the Peace Corps, Ecuador stood out to me. I started my journey in the Amazon region, surrounded by lush rainforests and vibrant wildlife. Now, I’m living in Ibarra, a beautiful city nestled in the Andes mountains. The views are breathtaking, the people are warm and welcoming and every day is an adventure. I teach English at a high school here, which has been such a rewarding experience. My students inspire me with their energy and determination, and I’m so proud to see them growing in confidence.
