Planes, Trains and Automobiles!

Introduction:

Buenos días, estudiantes! I hope you are all having a fantastic day. Do you ever think about how you arrive at school? I’m sure it is so natural to you now and such a normal part of your daily routine that maybe you don’t think much about it. I assume that some of you might walk to school or take the subway, or perhaps your parents take you to school. Transportation is an enormous part of our lives, and sometimes we forget how important it truly is! The movement of people and how they move can be different depending on where you live in the world. Ecuador has its own special sytem!

How do people get around?:

Many people in Ecuador have their own vehicles, which allows them to move freely whenever they want. Most cars have manual transmissions, which means the driver must shift the gear of the car when they want it to go faster. The majority of cars in the United States are automatic, which means that the process of shifting gears is done automatically. As with any country, Ecuador has driving laws that drivers should follow. However, here in Ecuador, the rules are not always followed, so you must be a bit more cautious. I don’t drive here, so I walk a lot. One cultural difference that I have noticed is that most cars do not stop for pedestrians.
