I helped with a children's group, where we made two crafts together, then performed a small play for their parents. With 15 kids, messy craft projects (I'm not sure who thought it was a good idea to do papier-mâché!), and various English language levels, it definitely was a challenge, but incredibly fun! Some kids even remembered me from the last time that I volunteered, so it was great to be able to make a stronger connection with them.
I haven't read anything yet, but I did sign up for a library card through American Space Madrid! They have a library with lots of English books, but also a large section of Spanish books! I'm so excited to get reading!
I'm not very athletic, so I haven't participated in any games or sports this week. I did, however, find an app for Geocaching, which is a worldwide network of hidden boxes. It's like a treasure hunt! People hide boxes (they can be anything from a Tupperware container to a small magnetic box) all around the world, then log them on the app. Then, anyone can use the app to find these geocaches and log how many they've found. It sounds a little insane, but it's a great way to explore the city! I'm hoping to find some with my friend Zoe the next time she visits.
In my Spanish class, I learned a new colloquial word: chungo. There are a few different translations, but ultimately it means something that's bad, cheap or crappy. My teacher told us that it's almost the opposite of guay, which means cool, great or super.
