Traveler Bio

Salamat datang! Welcome! My name is Jennifer Uribe, but you can call me Jenn. I am 22 years old and was raised by the ocean in a town called Plymouth, Massachusetts. Growing up by the beach, I fell in love with sea kayaking, sea glass collecting and lobster hunting! I also love art and crafts and am constantly trying different watercolor mediums to fill my spare time.

In college, I left the beaches of Plymouth and headed to the Green Mountains of Vermont to study neuroscience and applied linguistics at Saint Michael's College. Throughout my time at St. Mike's, I found a new passion for ESL classroom learning and traveling. I figured I would mesh the two together by applying for a U.S. Fulbright Student Grant to teach English as an English Teaching Assistant in Malaysia!

Fortunately, I was awarded a position and am now working in a local public school called SMK Sungai Petai (this translates to The River of Stinky Beans!). My school is located in a tiny fishing village between many rice paddies called Pasir Puteh in the Malaysian state of Kelantan. Kelantan is known for its avid love for handcrafted art, food markets and deep Malay culture. I feel so lucky to have found a new place in the world to call home and I am excited to share my adventures with you all! I cannot wait to tell you all my funky stories and show the beauty within my home of Malaysia!
