What main languages are spoken here?:

Belize is actually the only country in Central America where English is the official language because of Brithish rule that ended just over 44 years ago. However, a large majority of the people in Belize speak more than one language. Belize has over ten distinct languages that can be found all over the country.

The most common languages are English, which is taught in most schools, Belizean Kriol, an English-based Creole spoken by over 40% of the population, and Spanish, with dialects from El Salvador, Guatamela, Honduras, Mexico, and other countries being spoken by over 46% of the population. Most Belizeans are bilingual or multilingual, frequently combining English, Kriol, and Spanish into daily conversation.

There are also three main Mayan languages spoken in Belize: Yucatec Mayan, Q'eqchi Mayan, and Mopan Mayan. On top of that the Garifuna language is spoken here, which originated in the Carribean island of St. Vincent, as well as Plautdietsch, which is a German spoken by the Mennonites who came to Belize.
