Travel News

This also doesn't include all the hikes, walking, and running I have done during my time here, which has been a lot!

How did I get around this week?:

This week I got around a few different ways. Everyday I ride my bike to schoo. It's only about a five minute bike ride, but I always wear my helmet! My bike is a great way to get around the village, and my host mom calls it mi carro Beliceño (my Belizean car).

This week I also took multiple buses to a few different places. The buses in Belize are mainly retired school buses from the United States, so they aren't the most comfortable, however, they are reliable. This week, I also got to take a water taxi across the bay because I went to the beach on Sunday. It is only a 15 minute ride, but I think it is my favorite mode of transportation in all of Belize.

What was the most interesting place I visited this week?:

The most interesting place I visited this week was Placencia. Placencia is a tourist beach town that takes me about an hour or two to get to. I've made the trip a few times when I want to go for a swim in the ocean. It's interesting for me because it is very different than the village I currently live in.

Despite it being so close, it is full of tourists, which is an experience I am not yet used to. I often get confused for a tourist when I'm there, which never happens in my village. However, it's really refreshing to sit by the beach and listen to the waves while reading a book and drinking a fresh fruit smoothie. You really can't beat it!
