At first. I wasn't a huge fan of the buses because I was still learning the schedule, and I kept missing buses or getting on late and not able to find a seat. However, with a little more experience, I now know the schedule well, and am always early and able to get a seat and take a nap on the bus. While it does take a little longer than driving in a car, I enjoy the bus because I can read, write or watch a show. It is a nice time to just relax. There are also vendors who hop on the bus to sell fruits, meat pies, burritos, natural juices and all kinds of other food and drinks in case you are hungry.
Water taxis are connected to the environment because, without them, some of these islands and penninsulas would be impossible to get to, or would take much longer to navigate. You also are able to enjoy the beautiful nature and coast of Belize and the Carribean Sea on the way to these beautiful destinations.
The bus system is definitely a part of Belizean culture, as everyone has had to take the bus and knows what it is like. I've had many conversations with locals discussing the buses, especially people's favorite bus company or line.
