Traveler Bio

السلام عليكم (Peace be upon you)! Thank you for joining me on my journey to Morocco. My name is John Paul Libanati, but everyone calls me "JP". I am originally from Silver Spring, Maryland, just outside Washington, DC. Growing up in there gave me a deep appreciation for cultural diversity from an early age. From my Argentine family, to the Ethiopians who gave me my first driving lessons, to my Orthodox Jewish friends in middle school, I constantly found myself encountering new cultures. For college, I moved to Nashville, Tennessee where I studied biomedical engineering at Vanderbilt University. After college, I decided that I wanted to continue encountering new cultures while serving others by studying the health needs of people in low-resource settings. Thanks to a Fulbright Research Grant, I will be researching the health needs of sub-Saharan migrants in the North African kingdom to inform future biomedical innovations that would help others in similar situations. I cannot wait to swap stories as I encounter both Moroccan and sub-Saharan African cultures.
